Almost daily I am reminded of how negligent I have been towards my blog. I have not stopped taking photos, so there is no need to worry. I have currently had an itching desire to learn to reupholster chairs. You know how an itch won't stop itching until you scratch it? Well, this passion for upholstery wont go away until I try it. So here it is, one of my first small attempts to reupholster a chair.

I spent this afternoon looking for plane tickets. Why oh why are they so expensive? In the past month a few months a few people have asked me "out of all the countries that you have visited what one would you live in"? I would say Portugal. The people are friendly, the culture is rich, the streets are made of stone, the streets are narrow, there is now where to park (so they all drive smart cars), the language is welcoming, and there is a never ending supply of bread and olive oil... the list goes on. I thought an image from portugal would be a good one to practice my texturizing on.

I think I must be getting old. It seams that all the people I went to school with are getting married! Don't you remember thinking in high school that that day would never come, I could not imagine it anyway. Maybe that is just because I was too busy to ever think about that kind of thing, but none the less, that time has arrived. Sunday morning I grabbed my camera, my new CD and started down our beautiful rode to Hope. This time, I could not see anything due to SUPER thick fog. Thankfully it lifted before I got to Hope where I met up with Sedric and Leah. After a shoot with many laughs I drove away wondering why I have not visited more of the amazing places in BC. I love traveling, I think I need to do more small trips in this province. Thank you Sedric and Leah for getting me out and showing me a new little place of beauty.

There has been a pile of pants sitting in my room that need to be hemmed for a couple months. Hemming has been the story of my life. So yesterday I went out to the shed, got the sewing machine, got some thread, and then got distracted on another project. I have been wanting to sew this little dress for my niece for awhile and it sounded like more fun the hemming 6 pairs of pants. Since I broke the only 3 needles that I have, my pants are still sitting at the end of my bed waiting to be hemmed. (Andrew, how much are you planning on feeding Naomi between now and Christmas, I hope it will fit her).

Morning Sunrise

Every morning we wake up to fog now. It is so beautiful to watch as it creeps up the valley.

Driving in the car, and an amazing sushi restaurant. I love their back wall! It was here that we decided we would do the complete loop. So instead of driving back the way we came (inland), we went up the coast through Whistler.

This waterfall was beautiful, but due to the focal range of my lens I could not catch the whole fall.

I think these flags are to represent the people who live in this country. Or its a red and white club.

We ended the day at Whistler at the Old Spaghetti Factory, Mmmmm Pesto Pasta! On the way out we each got a cup of hot mint tea and did a bit of window shopping in the village. I picked up my first pair of Crocs there, the slipper kind. I always hated these things, but once I felt how warm and light they are I could not help but buy them. Besides since they were a kids size they were cheaper, had no tax and I got an additional 25% off! The whole day was such a blessing I just had to share it.

I thought I would post something out of the ordinary today. This last weekend our school had a picnic in the apricot orchard. We kept the students and staff busy with random games that involved random things such as buckets, tires, or cornstarch goop. The big activity of the night was a huge hit an a amazing opportunity for some action photography. We divided everyone up into 6 groups and gave them each a few pieces of cardboard, a razor blade, 2 paddles and a roll of duck tape. They had 55min to build a boat that would eventually bring the whole team across the pond. I don't believe any boat got the whole team across, but most boats made many trips. We finished the night with a message by pastor Lemon in the orchard. The lights were incredible.

Holli is married! I remember when she got her drivers license and she was so kind that she would drive us around everywhere since we were all to young to get ours. Now, this summer I found myself shooting her wedding. The beauty of Holli is that she was not a BrideZilla. Some of the highlights of the wedding day was, the rain stopped for the photo shoot, a thunderstorm forced us to move the wedding into a church, the groom had to sward fight up to get to his bride, the tornado sciren was on key with the music, and she waited until the alter to get her first kiss from him. There are many more photos that I want to post, so hopefully there will be post #2 will come out soon!

A couple weeks ago my neighbor asked me to shoot his senior pictures for him. It was great to be home again and run around my home town on a shoot. Whenever I wanted Eric to smile, I would just tell him a story of when I used to babysit him and his brothers. Then he would promptly shoot back a story of how they would make my job hard. I don't know who smiled more! Those were good times!

The wedding season has begun! When I agreed to shoot a bunch of weddings this summer I had not idea what I was getting myself into. It takes FOR EVER to go through the photos after the wedding. I still have a whole folder I have not even peaked at! When I arrived in Arizona at Jannas family farm I saw her at a distance and ran to give her a hug. She hobbled in my directions and proceeded to tell me the story of how she just broke her toe. The stories only got worse from there on. The groom got a cut on his lip, the father of the bride sliced his head open and one of the guests followed suit. I am proud to say I made it through the weekend in one piece, without any slices taken out! Besides the injuries the wedding was beautiful. I am so excited to see Janna so happy, I know she has a great guy.

Have I ever expressed to you how hard it is to take pictures of guys? Well, I will spare you my rant, but I just don't think I am all that great. Anyway I decided to stop telling myself that I am terrible and do my best. Sharley is one guy with lots of character! He asked me "Ceri, I want these pictures to reflect who I am, what things could I do to make that happen"? I told him that he was known for Yodeling, climbing, being late (for a good reason), art, his smile, and his solid walk with the Lord. Regardless of my previous attitude on taking pictures of guys, I think it went well.

Its been a couple weeks since I took these photos. Before the shoot I realized that the new water containers that the school just bought would be a great background for her shoot. It's so much easier to take pictures in town where you can use all different colored walls (like Sharon's shoot). Photo shoot after photo shoot I struggle to find something original around here. Anyway the beauty is the person, and that is what makes each photo unique. I remember when Becky would and come visit her siblings at school when I was a student. I really wanted to go to school together and was very disappointed when she did not come my senior year. I must say, I have been blessed to spend these two years with her. Sure we did not get to go to school with each other, but at least I got my time with her! She is allot like me, has a passion for health, cooks the school breakfast, loves to exercise and wants to have constant communication with Christ. This girl has one thing I need more of, and that is discipline. That is what makes her stand out in a crowd. I love it, and I love her!

Sharon also known as my Huggy Buddy is always a blast to be around. She acquired the name because she was the only one my size during high school that was not awkward to hug (since I am so short). Obviously she grew, but I still like to call her my Huggy Buddy. At the end of her shoot she told me "Ceri, I always have so much fun with you". I told her " thats because you decide to have fun, it's all in your attitude". Huggy Buddy has such a positive attitude that it is incredibly contagious, I mean just look at her pictures, don't you want to smile too? I think the people watching us run around town had to smile to! We ran from wall to wall laughing the whole time!

We only had one class period to get Cara's pictures done, and we did it! She really wanted to use the dandelions in the orchard and I personally thought that it was a great idea. Looking down on the orchard it looks like it was sprayed with gold. It was perfect timing too, because the lawn got a haircut the next day. One thing I love about Cara is that her smile is always genuine! That means allot to a photographer!

Someone asked me today if I could describe them in one word. That is a hard thing to do for me since I am not very talented with words. But if someone asked me to describe jenny in one word I would say that she is a Gem! It takes allot to get her worked up, and is very easy going. That is exactly what I needed for this shoot because I only had a 1GB card. We had to take a couple breaks and download the pictures, but we swinging on the swing in Elain's yard while we waited. My new excitement for the week is that I just bought a new 32GB 60mb/sec card. Finally I can shoot to my hearts content!

I have been trying to create and decide on a water mark for my images and were planning to have them out by this shoot, but once again, I am in the valley of decision. I could not handle waiting any longer and decided I had to get on with my posts. So sorry for the delay.

Every time I think of Melssia I can not believe that I did not go to school with her. She is an amazing girl. I had allot of fun getting to know her last year, but this year has been even better! Since I live much closer to her than last year I often find myself in her room listening to her tell all the hilarious stories of the day. When she relives and tells a story, its almost better than if you were really there. She finds laughter in almost everything, and the best part is, she can laugh at herself! She came dancing into my room yesterday to show me her grad dress. Its going to be so sad next year without her.

This morning Melody told me her idea for her photo shoot. I was so excited! Her hair was beautiful and the outfit was great. She even found a prop for us to use! Can I say enough good things about this family? I never laugh as much as when I am with them! Normally I never can find anything bad about them, this week I could. It was like pulling teeth to get a few pictures of them. Finally I managed to snap a few on my 3rd attempt. But their ideas of a picture for the year book was something like stickmen, high school photo, or even a modern from the knees down photo. Although a high school photo might be amusing, I would rather look at these.

Raquel was smart, she knew how busy I would soon be. So she scheduled in fast! Right after work on friday we headed to the fresh apricot blossoms. Mmmm... they smelled so good! Would you like a free tour or a free hotel? With only 12 hours to spend in my newest country, #19, I was very very sad. But are you kidding me, a hotel? Of course I wanted the tour! Flying from the KotaKinabaloo airport was a 6 hour flight to korea, But I only remember about 30 minutes of it. Those few minutes were spent dreaming about what my 12 hours would be spend like. My guess of seaweed, kimchi, rice, and and a camera staring me in the face was not far off. We were met at the airport with a big banner, traditional rice cakes, and the best oranges I have had in along time! Next I had to make a decision. How much money should I exchange, or should I do any at all? A little voice in my head kept saying "you know you never by trinkets anyway"! Any decision is hard when you are on jet lag and this one felt like I was deciding what do for me carrier. So in my pocket eventually went 40,000 Wons ( it is not as nice as it sounds). With that all taken care of I hopped on the bus with 40 other people and headed to Seoul. I so badly wanted to stay awake and watch the country side, but sleep succeeded in the battle of endurance. When the bus stopped I jerked awake, similar to the one when you wake up without an alarm clock and relies you were left behind. We stopped at couple of the typical tourist spots and watched asians do what they do best (take pictures). They even had special spot marked out that said "Photo Spot". Normally I see parents taking pictures of their kids at these monuments, but this time it was a little kid taking a pictures of her parents. After the sight seeing we did some quick shopping (where I spent all my money) and then went for lunch. Mmmm… was it ever good! We all filed through the narrow streets and up some steps into a traditional Korean restaurant and sat on the floor around these tables that were only about 1 foot off the ground.They served us rice that were mixed with vegetables and seaweed. It came out sizzling in a big bowl that had been resting on the hot flames. Before I stirred my rice I bowed my head to thank God for all His blessings. I evidently spent the right amount time praying because my rice had become perfectly crispy brown, just how I like it! Oh, and just for your information I did eat every last gain of rice with my chopsticks! Before driving back to the airport we begged our tour guides to take us to a place to get seaweed. We completely drained the nearest store out of the seasoned seaweed. I still wonder what they thought of us crazy seaweed eating tourists. So with rice in our bellies, camera cards full, wallets empty, and bags of seaweed we piled onto the plane just grateful for a place to sleep.

This sunday one of the guys called me up and asked me if I could do a photo shoot of his group of singers. I was excited, except for the fact that it is january and everything is brown. I could not come up with any good ideas of where to shoot this classy looking bunch. So to the river we went. It was only when we got down there did we realize that the guys should have put on bright colored clothing. Oh well, and so once again, I live and I learn. They are a great group though. We laughed allot and froze even more.

I have one word to describe this years GYC, and that is BUSY! I was asked to do a bunch of things and really only did two in the end, but those two things kept me busy. I got supper excited when Katie asked me to take pictures for GYC this last summer. So thats what I did took LOTS of pictures. Here is just a taste of the weekend. Thursday night after worship I told all the girls that live in Whistling Winds with me that we need to have a quick meeting. Earlier I baked a couple apple pies, popped pop corn, attempted a pumpkin spice drink, and made bread. The day before I put the tree up, strung all the lights and got the ornaments ready. So when they arrived we had a party! The girls had a blast, and I think the tree turned out well. The girls asked me if they could use my camera to take pictures. So these pictures are a compilation of Sharon, Danielle and My photography. Merry Christmas!

I have started working on the senior portraits for 2010. I am also working hard at deleting all the ones off my computer from last year and keeping only the best. So far I have deleted about 30G. I really need to be more organized this year. I think that will be my one new years resolution.

Bethany was so much fun to shoot. Because I every day I know that she always has a huge smile across her face. I asked her "are you always this happy?" She said "well I have my down days too, but I always make sure to smile." She has never had a good photo shoot of herself, so that made it all the more exciting. It was her idea to bring the red chair that is normally in her and her roommates room. I just love creative people. If you guys have any idea's for good props for those seniors who are not creative, feel free to leave a comment.

The trip is over. I did not bring any trinkets home, so nobody expect any silver spoons with the country of portugal carved on it or any T-shirts. It is said that pictures say a thousand words, so I brought a few of those home. Enjoy! I hope this will take you out of your county and into a country that is rich in beauty, history and friendly people.

My best days in North America are when I have a flight booked for going over seas. October 23rd had me sitting in the Vancouver International Airport waiting for my plane to London then on to Lisbon. And so here I am sitting in the sun, beside the pool eating lunch with happiest family ever.

ASI Portugal

Friday night ASI Portugal started it's first anual meeting. Mark Finley gave us the message in the Lisbon SDA church. It was packed! The next morning church was held at a large building built for speakers for the college students near by. The building holds 1,600, but 1,800 were able to hear the message. The guards would not let anyone else in after 1,800 people came in, because of safety reasons. Portugal has around 10,000 Adventists in the whole country. That means almost 20% of all the Adventist in the country were there. I loved hearing about the ministries they were supporting. So many of the youth have started their own ministries. ASI was trying to raise 33,000 euros, but God truly blessed them there. They raised an astounding amount of 47,000 euros, that is not including some pledges. After church a news crew came and interviewed Mark Finley and Ruben (We are staying at his house). It was such a blessing to listen to Mark Finley speek to the interviewer. He has such a way of witnessing to people. In the end he prayed with the lady and for her career. I respect pastors so much more when they practice what they preach, and let me tell you, Mark Finley is one of those men. It was such a blessing to see so many people on fire for God. The fire there is growing fast. I was so honored to be there and whiteness this history being made, to see the first ASI in Portugal. It was a huge success!

Alonna called me up last friday and said "Ceri you have to get this kitten that is at the feed store, it is so cute! If nobody takes it tonight, they are going to kill it." Talk about laying a guilt trip on me. She then proceeded to tell me all of the ways that people get rid of their unwanted kittens. They were not pleasant stories. I said I would love to take the cat, but had no place to keep it. She then offered, "well it can stay at my house"! That was it, how could I leave such a little kitten to die? So now, I have a cat or what our family calls a part time cat. I only have to take care of it when the Smiths are gone, or when i want to come up and visit it. It's name is Skagen, named after the town most north in Denmark. And I? Well I fell in love at the first sight. Isn't he Handsome? (of course there is still a debate over whether it is a boy or a girl).

The Ultimate Pizza Shop

Every summer my family spends one evening at gourmet pizza restaurant . Its not a normal restaurant, and I am not even sure what to call it, but I do have one word for it, Amazing! This is how it works, you bring your own, tables, chairs, silverware, salad, drinks, and friends and they will provide the pizza. It takes about 30 minutes to drive to, and are located way out in the farmlands of Wisconsin. Surrounded by cornfields on all sides except for one little quaint white church there are cars lined up for a 1/4 mile. Oh and did I mention, you have to take your trash home with you. Sounds like more work than service. But its the close atmosphere of the comutinty that makes this place fly. The place is run by a family who fulfilled the american dream. The father is the head chef of a gourmet restaurant in a near by town on the mississippi river. My parents go there on their dates, but have always said that I can not go until I am married. When we arrived we were shocked at the amount of people already there. The family started making these pizzas in their one outdoor stone oven for their friends. The word spread, and more people started to come and that is when we started coming. It was such a small little place, but now they serve 200 pizzas in a few hours. So if you ever come and visit me, make sure you come on a tuesday, because they only serve once a week.

The Picture Perfect Night

Last night was a night I will never forget. On the way back from MI my mom told me that one of her love languages is quality time. I believe that has to be one of mine, because it was the time my family spent together what made it such a perfect night.

Thanks to Vanessa, we were able to throw a suprize party for mom and dad. You see, my brothers and I are terrible at remembering dates, and when I say terrible i mean it in every sense of the word. So last night I took mom and dad out on a photo shoot. I told them that it was my gift for them, because after all, it is their 30th anniversary. They should have some good pictures. Then while I was gone, the rest of the family set up the table and made the meal (most of it was done earlier that day behind moms back). Durring the shoot we ran into all the people that mom and dad know in town. You can never go to town with my parents without running at least a few people that they know. Then after a 2 conversations and 2 Minnesota long good byes we made it home. I thought my was going to invite one home. I was not sure how i was going to get out of that one. As we pulled in the drive way mom was wondering why all the rest of the family was dressed up and standing by the car. She thought that they were going to go out to eat. Andrew was like, mom we need to take our family picture. So we went out to the road and clicked a few with the tripod. Then he was said "we should take some at the pond." As we rounded the house, there it was! Lights in the tree's and a full table decorated like you would see in the martha stewart magazine. It was an amazing meal with spinach artichoke dip, sour dough bread, brochette, and lots more! Oh and it was all home made! It was great, mom and dad were so amazed! Then after we got the motivation walk out from under the lights we all came inside and watched slides that were taken AGES ago. And when I say ages, I mean I was only in one of them. It was more like watching mom, dad, and ryan. I did come to see how much mom and dad took Ryan every where. It was a night full of laughing and ewww's and awww's. Thanks mom and Dad for sticking together for all these years. I am sure it would have been allot easier without us, but you would not have so much fun if we were not there.

A few nights ago Holli and I stayed in town for awhile and took some pictures after 10:00 pm. I did not have a tripod so it was kinda hard to get them clear, because the shutter would be open for up to 50 seconds.

Hey guys! This summer has been amazing. Here are some pictures of the camp out my family went on last week. These pictures hopefully tell the story well. The whole trip consisted of some great games of tolf (golf with tennis balls), Naomi wishing she had some chaco's, Eating, laying in the sun for hours, paddling through shallow rapids(had to get out of the canoe a few times), playing with some glow sticks at night, and the best part about it was playing with Naomi. Sorry if there are a few too many pictures of her, you will just have to get used to it. To put it simply, she is irresistible subject matter! oh and note to all campers. Take the group shot at the beginning of the camp out, not at the end :)
